If these session dates are not suitable for you, please contact us and we will try to arrange a customized session for you. The minimum session duration should be 2 weeks as we consider less time will not satisfy anyone interested in archaeology field work. You can extend your session for a third or more weeks if you wish, but you need to inform us at least one month before the session start.

Agenda

Saturday. Arrival in Sofia. Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation at the hotel in Sofia.
Sunday. Trip to Sandanski, accomodation, introduction with the Museum staff and the site itself. Walking tour of the town.
Mon-Fri and Mon-Thu next week /9 full days in total/ - morning fieldwork. Fieldwork will start at 6:30-7:00 and will continue until noon. After a lunch break participants are offered to attend a mosaic practical course organized by the museum or do any other activities they would like. We consider this is enough work per day in the hot summer and will not urge you to work more. However, everyone who feels enthusiastic about both fieldwork on the site and/or the mosaic production can arrange a longer and heavier schedule.
Weekend:
Saturday. Trip to Philippi in Greece. As now Bulgaria and Greece are members of the European Union, there are no real borders and going to Greece is much more facilitated. The town of Philippi is 180 km away from Sandanski and the trip will require some more travelling time and we believe it is worth spending it. More info at Trips.
Sunday. Optional trip to Melnik and Rozhen Monastery or a day off.
You can visit Melnik - a small and unique town some 20 km far from Sandanski. More info at Trips.
If you chose not to attend the Optional trip, you can spend your time in Sandanski in many ways. You can visit one of the numerous spa centres with open-air pools. Also you can go out for a picnic in the park which is about 5 minutes walking distance from your hotel. Hikers will find many picturesque images of southwestern Bulgaria. You can also fool around all day long - chilling at many open-air cafeterias, restaurants, bars.
Friday. Travel back to Sofia and walking city tour.
Saturday. Departure from Sofia airport.

 

Pricing

The Fieldwork Program price per person is changed to €749.00

*Prices are calculated for accomodation in double and triple rooms. In case you insist to sleep in a single room, please let us know in advance. We will inform you about this possibility and the price.

!!!Please note that the Program price is changed to €749 as of 28th of April 2008 for applicants who apply after this date.

Program cost includes:
- Application fee;
- Meeting at the airport and airport-hotel-airport transfers;
- Accomodation on Bed&Breakfast basis in Sofia and Sandanski (2 overnights in a nice hotel in Sofia and 12 overnights in a centrally located hotel in Sandanski);
- Transfer Sofia-Sandanski-Sofia;
- Digs/fieldwork and mosaic courses fee - 9 full days;
- Day trip to Philippi, Greece in the Saturday between the two working weeks;
- Entrance tickets for the museum in Philippi.

Program cost DOES NOT include:
- airfare expenses*;
- travel and medical insurance;
- food and beverages for lunch and dinner for all 14 days**;
- personal expenses.

*AIRFARE TICKETS. Price does not include the travel expenses to Sofia, but we can assist you in buying international airtickets. Please, provide your travel details by email and we will forward you to our partner travel agent who will offer the best airfare rates for your trip.

**FOOD COSTS. Please, refer to FAQ for detailed food costs during your trip. The total sum needed for 2 weeks should be around €100.

SCHEDULE OF PAYMENT:
To book your participation in this Program, you should pay an Application fee of €180. The remainder of the sum should be paid upon arrival. Once you fill the application form we will we will send you a Letter of Confirmation and will give you our payment details together with all other arrangements.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:
There are no general deadlines for applying to this Program. Of course, the earlier you apply, the better chance for reserving a place.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:
Application fee is fully refundable 45 days before session start. After that time the Application fee is non-refundable.
